- Formulation of a master plan for solid waste management that combines basic principles of waste prevention, waste recovery and recycling, efficient collection and waste disposal, and application of financially viable waste-to-energy technologies.
- Establishment of a waste-to-energy facility at the Terjun landfill to produce steam from combustion of methane gas harvested at the site, and the steam used to run turbines to generate electricity for insertion to the grid.
- Development of the site’s remaining 4 ha into a sanitary landfill, while gradually closing/capping the old dump to be mined for methane gas.
- Establishment of waste segregation and materials recovery facility at the landfill, with involvement of community-based waste pickers for livelihood inhancement (currently 500 work at the site)
